WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – The Saint Leo women’s golf team saw their first trip of the Fall season cut short thanks to a weather system that moved through Western North Carolina, dumping rain on the Waynesville Country Club and washing out any chances of the Lions completing the final round of play.

Instead, the Lions headed back to Saint Leo, Fla. with an impressive single-round showing as they finished in seventh-place in the 23 team tournament.  An invitational dominated by Division I teams including Appalachian State, William & Mary and host Western Carolina University, saw senior Anna Riss’ even-par performance put her on the All-Tournament Team after finishing three-strokes back of the individual lead.

Besides Riss, two other Lions shot in the 70’s with newcomer Jordan Hatch dropping in three birdies with a two-over 74.  The Lions’ other new face, Suzanne Ervin also posted three birdies and finished with a five-over 77.

Kristina Carvalho and Goeun Lee closed out the team scores for Saint Leo with an 81 and 83 respectively.

For the rest of the field, the host WCU Catamounts and Elon University were named Co-Tournament Champions, shooting a team combined 286 in the first round.

William & Mary shot a team score of 288 and earned the overall runner-up title. Runners-up individually were William & Mary’s Morgan Stepanek and UAB’s Lindsay Taylor.

In addition to Riss, all-tournament selections included Western Carolina’s Desiree Karlsson, SCAD’s Katrina Ruest and Elon’s Kelsey Johnson and Diana Davis.
