PALM BEACH GARDENS. Fla. – The Saint Leo University women’s golf team posted a 12th-place finish at the NSU Shark Invitational Monday, October 13. The par 72 Squire Course at PGA National witnessed a three-hour postponement midway through the first-round due to poor weather, but play was resumed in the late afternoon.   Today’s  second round was cancelled due to inclement weather, as well.

The Lions (342) finished ahead of four teams including six strokes ahead of SSC competitor Eckerd College (348).  Freshman Tricia Maloney was the Lions top finisher completing the first-round shooting an 80 (+8).  Anna Riss concluded the afternoon tied for 32nd delivering an 82 (+10) in the rain-shortened tournament.

Geun Lee shot a 42 on both the front and back nine to finish with an 84 (+12).  Kristina Carvalho and Meghan Costello finished the day shooting a 96 and a 99 respectively.

NSU (306) leads Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn University (310) by four strokes and Florida Southern (315) by nine strokes after 18 holes of play.  St. John’s (318) and Tarleton State (319) round out the top five.

Lynn’s Megan Mangone was the individual champion, registering a one under-par, 71.

The Lions resume action when they host the 2008 Saint Leo University Fall Invitational from October 20-21. Play will take place at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club in Tampa, Fla.
