Winter Springs, Fla. (March 13, 2007) - The Saint Leo University women's golf team finished 13th at the 32nd Annual Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational hosted by Rollins College on Tuesday. The Lions totaled 1043 (349-348-346) in the 54-hole event.
Day one leader Rollins shot a final round best 302 and cruised to a 13-stroke victory. The Tars' win is their third straight at the prestigious PKB, which is hosted at Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs, Florida.
Third-ranked Rollins was the only team to break 300 in the event as they opened with a 298 on Monday morning and came back with a 310 to lead by seven strokes after day one. The Tars posted 302 on Tuesday to finish up with 910 strokes. Division II powerhouse Methodist University was runner-up, carding rounds of 306-308-309 for 923 shots. Second ranked Lynn University was one shot back in third with 924 shots (319-302-303) while No. 1 Florida Southern (307-309-322=927) and Division I University of Kentucky (316-306-310=932) round out the top five.
Saint Leo was led by Angela Sparagowski (So., Sylvani, Ohio)who finihsed tied for 34th individually. The sophomore shot 81-80-82 for a three round total of 243.
Nova Southeastern's Maria Garcia Austt turned in rounds of 68 and 74 on Monday and came back with a solid 73 in the final round to claim medalist honors with a one under par 215. Erica Still (76-73-72) of Kentucky and Katie Dick (75-75-71) of Methodist tied for second place with five over par 221's.
Saint Leo will return to action next Tuesday and Wednesday in Monterey Bay, Calif. at the Second Annual Feel Golf/Lady Otter Spring Invitational.
