Women's basketball is headed to the SSC Tournament

SAINT LEO, Fla – The Saint Leo women's basketball team will be making an appearance in the 2017 Sunshine State Conference tournament as the No. 7 seed following the final day of the regular season.

Before the last day of games, there were a handful of scenarios that involve the Lions, Palm Beach Atlantic, and Lynn filling in the No. 7 and 8 seeds and the third team would find themselves on the outside looking in.

The final result of the day saw all three teams lose their games, and ultimately the tiebreak put Saint Leo at No. 7, Lynn at No. 8, and PBA on the outside.

With all levels of tiebreak being even, it came down to Lynn having a 2-9 record against common opponents played at the same site with the Lions, while Saint Leo's record 4-7, giving them the No. 7 seed.

Saint Leo then had to wait to find out who their opponent would be as Rollins and Florida Southern found themselves tied. With their tie settled by a coin flip, Florida Southern earned the No. 2 seed, while Rollins lost the flip and laid claim to No. 3.

Florida Southern will host Saint Leo on Wednesday, March 1 at 7 p.m.

Florida Southern took both games from Saint Leo in the 2016-17 season series. The Moccasins recorded a 72-54 win in Lakeland on November 16 and a 74-61 win in Saint Leo on February 1. Chelsy Springs averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the two games, while FSC's Anja Fuchs-Robetin averaged 19.5 and 6.0.
