Lions Break School Record for Wins with Victory over Lynn

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team broke yet another school record in their 95-64 victory over the Lynn Fighting Knights, Saturday afternoon from the Marion Bowman Center. In addition to registering a school record Sunshine State Conference wins, the triumph signaled a program record for wins in a single season.

The Lions wasted to no time in the contest, scoring within the first 20 seconds to take an early lead. Despite six lead changes in the first half, the Lions broke away late in the period, earning a 41-32 lead heading into halftime.

After time resumed in the second half, the Saint Leo offense surged ahead of Lynn's efforts. Leading by as much as 36 in the second half, the Lions finished the game with a 95-64 win.

Every Saint Leo player scored a point in the contest, with sophomore Ashlin Gross earning 17 to lead all scorers. In addition to Gross, four other Lions scored in double digits, as Chelsea Williams recorded 16, Chelsea Connelly earned 15, and Keishara Green registered 13. Senior Teresa Manigrasso rounded out the group with an 11-point effort.

Freshman Gabby Ortiz, who has appeared in nine contests this season, scored a career-high two points.

Manigrasso also collected a career-high 8 assists in the win.

Defensively, Green led all players with a career-high 14 rebounds on the afternoon, while Connelly pulled down 13. The efforts earned them both double-doubles.

As a team, Saint Leo earned 54 total rebounds in the victory. The squad shot 39-79 (50 percent) from the field, while draining 10-15 (67 percent) free throws. They logged 20 assists while forcing 15 turnovers.

The Lions will return to play on Wednesday, February 27 when they head to St. Petersburg to take on the Eckerd College Tritons. Tipoff for the contest is set for 5:30 p.m., and the game will signal the Lions' second-to-last regular season matchup.
