Second Half Surge Propels Lions to Eighth-Straight Vicory
SAINT LEO, Fla. – After taking a 92-87 win over the Flagler College Saints in the Lions' second game of the 2013-14 season, the Saint Leo women's basketball team again defeated the visiting Flagler Saints by a 75-62 score, Tuesday night. The victory signaled the undefeated Lions' eighth-straight win, extending the best start in school history for the women's program.
The first half was a battle for the Lions, as they walked into halftime trailing the Saints 37-35, and shooting 14-32 (43.8 percent) from the field. The two-point deficit at the half signaled the first time that the Lions walked into halftime trailing their opponent this year.
After the halftime period, a second half fight ensued, with both teams refusing defeat. After eight lead changes in the contest, the Lions walked away with the victory.
Defensively, senior Keishara Green led the Lions in rebounds with nine. Sophomore Chachi Guzman and senior Chelsea Williams also tallied eight apiece.
As a team, the Lions shot for 27-59 (46 percent) from the field, while earning a 67 percent free-throw percentage. Collectively, the squad tallied 49 rebounds, notching eight steals in the process.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, December 7 when they head to Winter Park, Fla. to take on the Rollins College Tars. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
