WINTER PARK, Fla. –For just the seventh time in Saint Leo women's basketball history a Lions player has been selected to the All-Sunshine State Conference First Team—with Teresa Manigrasso earning the honors, it was announced Thursday from the conference office prior to the quarterfinal games of the women's basketball tournament in Kissimmee.
In addition to being a first team All-Sunshine State Conference selection, Manigrasso was also tabbed as the conference's Newcomer of the Year.
A transfer from St. Peters College, Manigrasso led Saint Leo with 15.5 points and 3.1 assists per game. She ranked fourth in the league in scoring while also shooting .811 from the free throw line—sixth best in the entire conference. The native of Atlantic Highlands, N.J. was ninth in the conference with 3.1 assists per game.
"Teresa has worked hard from the moment she stepped foot on our campus," Head Coach Nikki Jessee said. "She is very deserving of being selected All-Conference, and most certainly earned it. Congrats to her!"
Manigrasso was named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week on Jan. 28 and followed up in the next game with a career-high 31 points at Nova Southeastern.
The 2012-13 year for the Lions has been one of the best seasons in women's basketball program history. At 7-9 in the Sunshine State Conference, the Lions have exceeded the program record for conference wins in a season.
Despite the success and the accolades—this team is hungry for more. The Lions will face off in the quarterfinals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament against Lynn at 5:00 p.m. from the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Fla.
