Lions Tripped up by Tars, 87-74

WINTER PARK, Fla. – In an attempt to sweep the season series against Rollins, the Lions were defeated by the Tars, 87-74 on Saturday afternoon from Winter Park, Fla.

Chelsea Williams led the way for the Lions with a career-high 26 points on the afternoon. Williams was 11-17 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. Keishara Green notched a double-double in the loss—tallying 14 points and 12 rebounds. Teresa Manigrasso totaled 11 points on the afternoon and both Kinnara Lewis a Christina Granville scored eight points.

In the first half the Lions' post players provided the majority of the offensive output with Williams leading the way with nine points. Green also dropped in six first half points while pulling down seven rebounds. Also with a big first half was Granville who contributed seven points.

Despite shooting 40 percent from the field and going 8-for-8 from the free throw line, Saint Leo trailed by nine going into halftime.

The Lions went on a bit of a run to start the second half—with Green scoring five straight points to cut the Tars' lead to four. But the Lions' deficit quickly increased into double digits in the next few minutes.

The Lions battled and kept it close for the remainder of the second half, but were never able to get within striking distance of the Tars.

For the game the Lions shot a hair over 40 percent, but Rollins still held the shooting edge—shooting nearly 50 percent from the field and 26 percent from behind the arc. Saint Leo was just 2-for-9 on long range shots.

Saint Leo was able to outscore the Tars in the paint 36-20, but Rollins held the rebounding advantage 41-31.

The women's basketball team gets back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 27 for their Senior Night against Eckerd. Tipoff for that game is set for 5:30 p.m.
