SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University head women' basketball coach Nikki Jessee has announced former Wesley Chapel High School head girls basketball coach, Shawn Brown, has been added to the Lions' coaching staff as an assistant.
Brown's duties will include recruiting, scouting, coaching post players, and advising Saint Leo women's basketball camps. He will begin his duties immediately.
Joining Jessee, as well as first year assistant Jen Gellock, Brown brings a wealth of knowledge of the sport of basketball to the Lions' bench. He has assembled an impressive resume over the course of his 13-year coaching career.
"We're excited to have Shawn helping us," said Jessee. "He brings a wealth of knowledge having been a very good collegiate player, as well as coach on several different levels. He understands where our program is right now and where we plan on taking it."
Most recently at Wesley Chapel High School, Brown, an Adrian, Mich. native, was also the assistant boys' basketball coach at Zephyrhills High School from 2007-2010.
Additionally, Brown was a Youth Camp Counselor for the Orlando Magic from 2005-2008.
After his first coaching position, the assistant's job for Adrian High School's basketball team, Brown spent four years coaching Michigan travel ball teams, before becoming the volunteer assistant in strength and conditioning for the University of South Florida's men's and women's basketball teams.
One of Brown's most significant accomplishments, however, is his involvement with the Eastside Basketball Camp which he helped founded in 2000, and is still flourishing organization today.
Competing at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (1994-96) and Spring Arbor University (1996-1998), Brown was named an NCCAA All-American Honorable Mention member, as well as a Michigan Collegiate All-Star Game invitee.
Brown graduated with a degree in Business Leadership in 2007, before earning his MBA in Sports Business from Saint Leo University in 2011.
After two games on the road, the Lions will return the Marion Bowman Activities Center to open 2012-13 home action as they play host to the University of Puerto-Bayamon on Friday, November 16, on the first day of the Saint Leo Invitational. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
