Women’s Basketball Falls to Rollins in SSC Road Contest

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team (7-15, 1-11 SSC) dropped a Sunshine State Conference contest to the Rollins College Tars, 86-50, Saturday afternoon from the Warden Arena.

The Tars utilized 13 three-point baskets, including seven in the second half, to post the double-digit victory.

The duo of Chelsea Williams and Kinnara Lewis led the team with nine points apiece, while Shalisa Hill registered a game-best six boards. Meanwhile, three Rollins players posted 12-point games.

Williams, Lewis, and company got the Lions going in the right direction as inside play gave the Lions an 8-2 lead. Unfortunately, the Saint Leo offense went quiet as Rollins went on a 35-8 run to claim a 37-18 lead. Despite the Lions' offense finding the basket near the end of the half, the Tars' three-point shooting kept the Rollins' lead at double digits.

The trend continued in the second half as Rollins went on an 18-9 run to begin the period. Lewis' attempted to keep the Lions in the mix with a pair of three-point field goals, but it was not enough as the Tars lead was substantial enough to overcome a late second half scoring drought.

The Lions shot nearly 35 percent (18-of-52) from the field and connected on 11 free throws.

Saint Leo will return to action on Wednesday, February 15, when they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to battle the Florida Southern College Moccasins from the Jenkins Field House. The SSC showdown is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
