Women’s Basketball Inks Abbey Steudler for 2012-13

SAINT LEO, Fla. – With the 2011-12 season underway, Women's Basketball Coach Nikki Jessee has announced the signing of guard Abbey Steudler for the 2012-13 season. Steudler is the first declared member of the 2012-13 women's basketball signing class.

"We are excited to sign Abbey," said Jessee. "She is a winner and comes from a solid program that has won three-straight state titles. With her shooting ability, she should make an immediate impact on next year's team."

A standout high school guard at Villa Maria Academy in Erie, Pa., Steudler has assisted her squad to three league, district, and state championships.

As a freshman, the Erie, Pa. native began to piece to together the beginnings of her stellar career. Immediately impacting her team, Steudler played a key role in helping her team to a 27-3 record in 2008-09. She averaged 4.5 points and two rebounds-per-game as her team collected the District 10 Championship, as well as the 2A State Championship. 

As a sophomore her production increased. Connecting on 23 three-pointers, Steudler averaged 5.1 points and 2.1 rebounds-per-game. The sixth-woman off the bench, she assisted her squad to a 28-2 record and the team's second-consecutive 2A State Championship.

She finished-out her junior campaign as a prominent starter at VMA. She registered a career-best 11.5 points-per-game, connecting on 40 three-point field goals. Shooting 80 percent from the charity stripe, Steudler also contributed 3.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.8 steals-per-game. A Second Team All-Region selection, in addition to an All-State pick, Steudler bucketed 17 points en route to the team's third-straight 2A State Championship.
