Lions Fall to Eckerd in Final Road Contest, 74-45

Lee Collects Team-High 16 Points

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team concluded its 2010-11 road slate with a 74-45 loss to the Eckerd College Tritons, Wednesday evening from the McArthur Center.

On the night the Lions were led by Lauren Lee and her 16-point, seven rebound effort. Meanwhile, two other Lions, Alyssa Viscomi and Elyse Clyburn, posted a pair of six-point games while Chelsea Connelly chipped in five points.

Eckerd controlled the pace of play both offensively and defensively, forcing the Lions into 18 turnovers over the course of the game. The Tritons turned those 18 turnovers into 22 points while outscoring the Lions 34-18 in the paint.

The home standing Tritons took to an early lead and never looked back as they began the game on a 16-3 run, highlighted by a pair of Ashley Lutz field goals.

Saint Leo trimmed the lead to six with 8:55 remaining in the first half as back-to-back jumpers by Lee and Chelsea Williams made the score 18-12.

However, the defensive minded Tritons shut the Lions' offense down over the next four minutes, while expanding their lead to 18, 35-17, with 3:05 to play in the half.

Eckerd kept the double-digit advantage as they entered halftime break, 38-22.

The Tritons continued their hot-shooting in the second half, as they opened the 20-minute session by putting up 10 of the first 12 points, expanding their lead to 24.

Despite the best interior efforts from Lee, the Lions could not overcome the large Tritons' advantage as they posted the double-digit conference win.

In addition, the Lions also faced a rebounding disadvantage, but were able to put in five-of 11 three-point field goal attempts, including two apiece from Viscomi and Clyburn.

The Lions will close-out the 2010-11 campaign at home on Saturday, February 26 when they host the Barry University from the Bowman Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the Lions will honor four seniors including, Joanna Bussa, Lauren Lee, Jamarra Robinson, and Kiara Bradley.
