TAMPA, Fla. –Saint Leo (9-3, 2-1 SSC) could not overcome 11 three-point baskets, as the Lions fell 78-42 to the No.14-ranked Tampa Spartans (13-1, 3-0 SSC), Wednesday evening from the Bob Martinez Sports Center in Sunshine State Conference play.

Leading the way for the Lions in the SSC tilt was Gekeela Clemmons, as she scored 11 points (5-for-11) and added four rebounds in the loss. Monique Reynard also had a solid contest scoring 11 points while going 3-for-3 from behind the three-point-line. The Lions immediately faced a large deficit as Tampa connected on a pair of three-point baskets to give them a 6-0 advantage. Willonda Windham and Brianna Lollis were the two bright spots for the Lions, scoring a combined seven points over the first 20 minutes.

The second half held much of the same for the Lions, as the inability to connect on shots gave Tampa the opportunity to increase their lead to 30 just three minutes into the half.

The running lead of 32 remained for the rest of the game, despite Reynard coming off the bench to score 11 points and Clemmons nine-point effort.

Overall, the Lions shot only 29.3% (17-for-58) from the field compared to 41.8% (28-for-67) for Tampa. Saint Leo was also out-rebounded, 48-34, while committing seven more turnovers than the turnovers.
