LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women’s basketball team (7-2) fell to the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears (8-1) 66-62, Wednesday evening at the Jenkins Field House in Lakeland, Fla.

Lenoir-Rhyne pulled away from Saint Leo in the final five minutes to post a hard earned victory in the opening day of the Holiday Inn-South Florida Southern Classic.

A three pointer by freshman guard Cameron Sealey gave the Bears the lead for good with 5:38 to go. The Lions had several chances to tie the game in the final few minutes but couldn’t convert.

Spearheading the charge for SLU with her third double-double of the young season was junior forward Dominique Daniels. She tallied 21 points and secured 13 rebounds, both of which were game highs.

Marquita Fenn chipped in 17 points and six rebounds giving the Lions two players in double figures.

Daniels (8-for-11) and Fenn (7-for-12) both had hot hands from the floor while the rest of the team combined to shoot 10-for-40.

The biggest lead for Saint Leo occurred at 18:29 in the second half with the score 34-24, while the Bears claimed a seven point advantge with 1:53 to go in the game, their largest of the night.

The Lions outrebounded the Bears 41-34 but committed 22 turnovers. Lenoir-Rhyne capitalized on the Lions' turnovers scoring 12 points. 

SLU continues play at the Florida Southern Classic Thursday against Millersville University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm EST.
