Tallahassee, Fla. (November 10, 2006) – The Saint Leo University women’s basketball team fell 86-61 to the Florida A&M Rattlers in an exhibition game on Friday night.

Saint Leo junior forward Marquita Fenn (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) scored 13 points to lead the Lions, while Amanda Holloway (Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) added 10 points.  However, five FAMU players scored in double figures to lead the home team to the victory.

The Rattlers jumped on top early, scoring the first five points of the game and opening on a 27-8 run in the first eight minutes.  The lead was stretched to as many as 24 points late in the half before the Lions scored the final two buckets to trail 52-32 at the break.

Saint Leo carried the momentum into the second half, as the Lions scored the first four points to cut the deficit to 16 points.  SLU eventually trimmed the lead to 14 points at 54-40 with 13:47 remaining in the contest.  However a 15-2 run would end any hopes of a Saint Leo comeback, as Florida A&M built its lead to a game-high 27 points at 69-42 with 8:28 left in the game.

Both teams shot the ball well on the night, as the Rattlers shot 49.3% (35-of-71), while the Lions went 26-of-53 (49.1%).  FAMU held the advantage on the glass, as it outrebounded SLU 40-27, including a 19-7 margin in offensive boards.

Saint Leo will open its regular season a week from tonight on Friday, November 17 when the Lions host the 2006 Sleep Inn Classic.  The hosts will face Northwood University on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then face Flagler College on Saturday at the same time.

Both days will feature doubleheaders with Clayton State facing Flagler on Friday and Northwood on Saturday with 5:30 p.m. opening tips scheduled for both contests.
