SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo volleyball player Kaitlin McKenna was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District first team, it was announced Thursday. McKenna joins a first team consisting of seven players, including four from the Sunshine State Conference.

The junior has once again produced staggering offensive and defensive numbers on the court. At the same time, McKenna has produced impressive numbers in the classroom.

There is little question about her dominance on the hardwood, as she has compiled a team-high 301 kills and a .403 attack percentage. She has also tallied a team-best 94 total blocks while starting each of the Green & Gold’s 28 contests.

However, the Farmington Hills, Mich. native has made it clear nothing will stop her pursuit of a degree in Accounting. The middle blocker, in two and a half seasons at Saint Leo, has cumulated a 3.84 grade-point-average and is only a semester and a half away from her expected graduation year of 2011.

With her first team all-district nod, McKenna is now eligible for All-America honors. She was joined by conference competitors Melissa Vanderhall (Tampa), Elise Burke (Florida Southern) and Devon Woolard (Lynn).

Sports Information Directors nominate student-athletes from their respective schools for the honor. Nominees must have a 3.30 cumulative GPA and have played in at least half of their of their team’s games. Nominees must also play one full season at the institution.
