ORLANDO, Fla. – Saint Leo volleyball player Danielle Bletso was named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week; it was announced Monday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones.

Bletso was top-notch on the defensive end for the Green & Gold. The sophomore middle blocker helped propel the No. 12-ranked Lions to a pair of conference road wins. For the week, Bletso averaged two kills per game, while hitting at a .371 clip. In total, the pair of SSC challengers was only able to produce a .160 attack percentage thanks to her defensive efforts.

In the Lions thrilling, five-set win over the Barry Buccaneers, Bletso amassed a team-high eight blocks, averaging nearly 1.5 blocks per game.

Her energy did not dissipate in the second game of the back-to-back day region contests. She closed the three-set sweep over Lynn with another four blocks, while chipping in three digs.

Bletso’s honor is the second in the past three weeks and the eighth volleyball player to earn spot on the 2009-10 Player of the Week List. Overall, the Lions have had 11 student-athletes named Player of the Week.

Bletso and the rest of the Lions are now set for their biggest test of the season on Wednesday, November 4 when conference rival and region foe Tampa enter the Bowman Center. Both teams enter the match one and two in the SSC standings, as well as the South Region Poll. First serve for the game is set for 7:00 p.m.
