LEXINGTON, Ky. – Bruna Rocha, a junior outside hitter for the Saint Leo volleyball team has been named the Sports Imports/ AVCA Division II National Player of the Week it was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon.  She earned the award after helping the 16th-ranked Lions to two huge road wins over fellow nationally-ranked Sunshine State Conference opponents.

Rocha began the week by notching a double-double in a 3-1 victory over then-No. 25 Eckerd. She totaled 17 kills on .469 hitting during the match and added 11 digs, four blocks and three aces. The Brazilian saved her best performance for last, hitting a scorching .538 with 21 kills, nine digs and two blocks in a whitewashing of then-No. 4 Tampa; the win marking the first time Saint Leo defeated the Spartans in 57 attempts.

For the week, Rocha hit at an impressive .507 clip, while averaging 5.43 kills and 2.86 digs per set.

This marks only the second time an athlete from Saint Leo has received Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week accolades, with the first coming in September 2008 with Michelle Nogueras’ award.
