LEXINGTON, Ky. – After breaking into the AVCA’s Top-25 poll last week at #23, the Saint Leo University volleyball team has managed to rocket up through the rankings, now ranked No. 16 in the latest Division II Coaches Poll. The ranking marks the highest spot in the history of the program for the 15-2 Lions

Defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul remains in the top spot as a unanimous selection. Cal State San Bernardino and UC San Diego are second and third respectively, while Central Missouri jumps up to the fourth spot.

Fellow Sunshine State Conference opponent Tampa leads the conference schools, dropping to ninth after a 3-0 loss to SLU on Saturday.  Eckerd comes in at No. 22 and Florida Southern is No. 23.  Lynn is the only SSC team to receive votes in the week’s poll.

With a 15-2 record, the Lions are coming off a pair of Top 25 wins last week, both within the Sunshine State Conference.  Saint Leo traveled to St. Petersburg on Wednesday and handed #22 Eckerd a 3-1 defeat and concluded the week with milestone sweep over then-No. 4 Tampa, also on the road.  It was the first time in 57 meetings that Saint Leo had defeated the Spartans.

Saint Leo now looks toward a ‘White-Out’ match with at home with visiting Florida Southern on Tuesday night where all fans in attendance are encouraged to wear white.  The Lions then host a weekend doubleheader with matches against Nova Southeastern and Bentley University on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
