PENSACOLA, Fla. – After their two big wins yesterday, the Saint Leo volleyball team continued to roll through the 2009 South Region Crossover as they swept North Alabama 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-14) in the early Saturday morning match at the University of West Florida.

After a tough first-set that saw 12 ties, the Lions (8-2) managed to get the win behind two service aces from sophomore Corey Ryan, who gave Saint Leo a 23-21 lead.  The first-set loss seemed to deflate the opponents from Florence, Ala. as North Alabama (3-8) only scored a combined 26 points during the remainder of the match.  In the rout, the Lions hit .407 in set two and almost .200 in the final set.

Junior Kaitlin McKenna again led the Lions with 12 kills and a .429 average and Bruna Rocha  and Emily Calderon-Reyes dug 12 and 11 balls respectively.

The number 12 was a popular one for SLU as they managed 12 service aces and 12 team blocks.  Ryan and setter Michelle Nogueras each posted three aces individually, with Nogueras’ coming consecutively.  On the opposite side of the net, Saint Leo saw junior Leah Perry and sophomore Danielle Bletso post identical blocking number as each managed two solos and assisted on four.

The Lions will now wrap up their portion of the 2009 South Region Crossover with a 4:00 p.m. EDT match with the University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras.
