SAINT LEO, Fla. – This dramatic volleyball season will continue.

The NCAA added to the drama on Sunday night as Saint Leo fans gathered around their computers for the 10:00 p.m. NCAA Selection Show on, but even the NCAA couldn’t make things easy as they sorted through 62 of the 64 teams that qualified for this year’s postseason before finally announcing that the Saint Leo University volleyball team, with their program-record 28-10 season, would be joining the tournament.

This will be the third consecutive time that the Saint Leo volleyball team has qualified for postseason play, matching a feat achieved by the baseball team (1999-2001) and, most recently, the women's soccer team (2006-2008).

The Lions, who earn the seventh seed in the South Region, will face off against second-seed Florida Southern College, who Saint Leo defeated for the first time in program history only five days ago.

Not only is this a rematch of that contest, but it is also the same tournament foe the Lions squared off against in last year’s playoffs.  The Mocs fell behind the Lions 2-1 and were on the ropes in the third game before rallying to end Saint Leo’s season in a five-game battle.

It will also be on the same floor as last year’s NCAA First-Round Tournament as the University of Tampa will hold the top seed and play host as the seven other teams will travel to the Bob Martinez Sports Center for Thursday’s first-round matches.

The Lions will be among familiar company in the eight-team field, with their opponent and four other SSC teams joining them.  Tampa earns the  No. 1 seed, while Lynn is seeded third.  Eckerd earned the No. 5 seed, while Nova Southeastern is No. 6.  Non-conference schools the University of West Florida and Albany State will also join the mix as they won their respective conference tournaments.

A complete schedule appears below.

Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $10 (adults) and $6 (students with ID/senior citizens). Children under the age of five shall be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.

All matches will be broadcast through the Saint Leo Lions AudioCast Network and a video webcast will be provided by the host Spartans.  More information and links will be provided later in the week.
