MELBOURNE, Fla. –  Sometimes all the breaks go your way.

That is a perfect description of how the Saint Leo University volleyball team won their 25th match of 2008 as they posted a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-20) sweep of host Florida Tech in Sunshine State Conference action on Friday night.

Despite the Halloween match on a floor with a big black cat in the middle of it, the Lions managed to put the bad luck on the host Panthers as it seemed like every lucky bounce went the way of the Green & Gold and helped SLU set a new program record for wins in a season.  The 25 victories eclipses the mark set by last year’s regional qualifying team.  This also marks the third-straight year that Head Coach Sam Cibrone’s team has set a new mark for wins in a single-season.

After breezing through the first two sets, the Lions saw Florida Tech rally in Game 3 to tie the score at 10-10, but after a Danielle Bletso kill put Saint Leo back on top, SLU would cruise to the match victory.

The Lions managed to complete the season sweep of the Panthers as they saw Kaitlin McKenna post double digit kills with 10, but almost every Lion starter put up decent numbers.  Leah Perry had the best match of any player on the Clemente Center floor as she hit .643 with nine kills and no errors.  She also posted four block assists in the win.

Junior Michelle Nogueras added 32 set assists as the Lions hit .320 as a team.

Saint Leo will don the away jerseys one more time this regular season as they travel to Rollins College to face the Tars in SSC action on Sunday.  The match begins at 2:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Saint Leo Lions AudioCast Network.
