SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo University volleyball team (12-0) entered the AVCA Top-25 National Poll for the first time in program history, as the Lions were ranked 22nd in the poll released on Monday.
The ranking is the highest ever for the Lions who trail fellow Sunshine State Conference schools Tampa (4) and Florida Southern (7) in the national poll.
The Lions have started the season a perfect 12-0 for the first time ever, as they have only surrendered six total sets to opposing teams in keeping their record unblemished. SLU defeated 23rd-ranked Ashland and Central Oklahoma, a team that received votes, to open the season and then defeated host Armstrong Atlantic last weekend at the Chatham Orthopedic Classic in Savannah, Ga. where they rolled through their third tournament in as many weeks.
Head coach Sam Cibrone and his team will open its Sunshine State Conference schedule on Wednesday, as the Lions will travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. to face Eckerd College at 7:00 p.m. and then host fourth-ranked Tampa (9-0) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
