MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Saint Leo University volleyball team continued their undefeated season as they concluded their sweep through the Florida Tech Invitational on Saturday as they defeated Valdosta State 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-13, 25-17) and St. Thomas University 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-10) to improve to 8-0 so far.

The opener saw the Lions take on Valdosta State (4-4) and quickly win the opening set before the Blazers surprised Saint Leo by drawing even after claiming the second at 25-20.  As they have shown so far this season, SLU used that setback as motivation for the remainder of the contest to roll through the next two sets to claim the match.

The Lions hit .275 for the match as four starters hit over .300.  They were led by sophomore Kaitlin McKenna (Farmington Hills, Mich.) who was 6-for-12 with a lone error for a .417 hitting percentage.  Senior Audrey Starkebaum (Haxtun, Colo.), junior Michelle Nogueras (Cayey, P.R.) and sophomore Leah Perry (Salem, Ohio) all hit over .300 to help notch the day’s first win.

In the nightcap, the Lions, facing St. Thomas (0-6) for the second time in a week, swept the Bobcats in a contest that saw Saint Leo hold their opponents to a scant .032 hitting percentage.

This game saw the Lions outdo their morning performance as four starters hit greater than .400 led by junior Jenna Jordan (Plant City, Fla.) as she hit .471 (9-for-17).  McKenna continued her attacking dominance as she also hit .429 and Nogueras posted 20 set-assists.

The Lions head back to campus for a week of practice before they travel to Savannah, Ga as they participate in the Armstrong Atlantic State University Tournament.  Friday will see Saint Leo face the host Pirates and also Carson Newman College.  The first game is scheduled for noon and will be broadcast on the Saint Leo Athletics Audiocast Network.
