Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (November 9, 2007) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (24-12, 6-9 SSC) was edged 3-2 by Nova Southeastern University (25-8, 11-4 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference match at NSU’s University Center on Friday night. The Lions lost their fourth straight with game scores of 30-26, 26-30, 26-30, 30-24 and 15-8.
The Lions were led by Emily Frey (Jr., Mason, Ohio) who registered 12 kills in the match, while freshman Kaitlin McKenna (Farmington Hills, Mich.) had 10 kills in the loss.
NSU took an early lead with a 30-26 win in game one, but the Lions battled back to event the match with a 30-26 game two victory. Saint Leo also won game three by a 30-26 scoreline and was in position to end its three-match losing streak with the 2-1 lead in the match.
However, NSU won game four 30-24 and then scored six of the first seven points in the decisive game five to wrap up the victory. NSU avenged a loss to SLU earlier this season in the first meeting between the two schools.
The Sharks had four players register double digits in kills, led by Aley Tallman’s 23. NSU setter Valia Petrova had a triple-double with 61 assists, 17 digs and 10 kills in the match.
The Lions will close out their 2007 regular season on Saturday at Barry University. The match will begin at 4:00 p.m.
