Saint Leo, Fla. (October 12, 2007) – Sophomore setter Michelle Nogueras (Cayey, Puerto Rico) had her fourth triple-double of the season with 48 assists, 11 kills and 10 digs to lead the Saint Leo University volleyball team (19-7, 4-4 SSC) to a 3-1 win over visiting Nova Southeastern University (18-7, 6-3 SSC) on Friday night in the Bowman Center.
The Lions stretched their winning streak to four matches overall, and won their third straight SSC match with game scores of 30-20, 31-29, 19-30 ad 30-23. Saint Leo also swept Valdosta State earlier in the day to post a perfect record in the first day of play at the Florida-Georgia Challenge.
Jenna Jordan (So., Plant City, Fla.) had a team-high 15 kills to lead the Lions, as she hit .481 in the match. Freshman middle blocker Kaitlin McKenna (Farmington Hills, Mich.) also added 12 kills in the win for the Lions.
NSU was led by Aley Tallman’s game-high 17 kills, while Melina Gorman added 16 kills for the visitors. Christina Chubb rounded out a trio of Sharks with double-digit kills, as she finished with 14.
The Lions raced to a 2-0 lead, which included SLU scoring the final three points of game two to win 31-29. After falling 30-19 in game three, the Lions responded with a strong performance in game four, overturning a 16-13 deficit and coming away with a 30-23 win.
The Lions will host West Georgia tomorrow at noon in their final match of the Florida-Georgia Challenge. Rollins will face West Georgia at 10:00 a.m., while Nova Southeastern will take on Valdosta State at 2:00 p.m. and Rollins will round out the tournament with a match versus Valdosta State at 4:00 p.m.
