Saint Leo, Fla. (October 6, 2007) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (16-7, 2-4 SSC) edged visiting Lynn University (11-6, 3-4) in a five-game Sunshine State Conference match on Saturday afternoon at the Bowman Center.  The Lions won with game scores of 30-18, 31-29, 31-33, 25-30 and 15-8.

The Lions had five players with double digits in kills to overcome Lynn’s Camila Lins who finished with a game-high 17 kills.  Saint Leo freshman Kaitlin McKenna (Farmington Hills, Mich.) had 14 kills for the Lions and hit .400 in the match.  Michelle Nogueras (So., Cayey, Puerto Rico) also added 55 assists, a game-high 18 digs and seven kills for the Lions.

Saint Leo raced out to an early lead in the match, as the Lions claimed the opening two games.

The Lions looked as though they were going to seal the win in three games, as they led 29-27.  However, Lynn scored three straight points to take a 30-29 lead and the Fighting Knights eventually stretched the match with a 33-31 game three victory.

Lynn forced a decisive fifth game by winning game four 30-25.  In the deciding game, the Lions won the opening four points to seize control and eventually pick up the victory and end a brief two-match losing streak.

The Lions return to action tomorrow with a home Sunshine State Conference match versus Barry University at 2:00 p.m.
