Saint Leo, Fla. (September 17, 2007) – Saint Leo University volleyball player Michelle Nogueras (So., Cayey, Puerto Rico) was named Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The sophomore setter led the Lions to a perfect 4-0 record this past weekend at the Bryant University Tournament, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Nogueras led the Lions (13-3) to four three-game road victories, averaging 12.9 assists per game, and helping Saint Leo to hit a stellar .399 for the week. In addition, she averaged 2.2 kills, 2.7 digs and 0.6 blocks per game, while hitting.475. In SLU's opening match of the week, she tallied her second career triple-double with 10 kills, 10 digs and 45 assists.
Nogueras was the second Saint Leo volleyball player to be named SSC Player of the Week in 2007 (Emily Frey-August 27). Saint Leo student-athletes have now won five SSC Player of the Week awards in the 2007-08 school year.
The Saint Leo volleyball team begins play within the Sunshine State Conference this weekend with a road trip that will see the Lions face Rollins College on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in Winter Park, Fla. and then travel to Melbourne, Fla. to face Florida Tech on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
