Pensacola, Fla. (September 9, 2007) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (9-3) concluded play at the 2007 Argonaut Regional Crossover in Pensacola, Fla. by splitting a pair of matches on Sunday.  SLU defeated Northern Michigan 3-1 (30-26, 20-30, 30-20, 30-24) before falling to No. 22 North Alabama 3-0 (30-20, 30-11, 30-25).

After opening the weekend with back-to-back sweeps of Southern Arkansas and Albany State on Saturday, the Lions assured themselves of a winning record by opening Sunday’s play with the win over Northern Michigan (6-6).  Armer had 19 kills against the Wildcats, and was just one dig shy of a double-double.

The Lions took an early lead in the match, as they scored the final three points to win game one 30-26.  NMU evened the match with a 30-20 win in game two, before Saint Leo regained the lead 2-1 with a victory by the same score in game three.  The Lions scored the first three points in game four, setting the tone and eventually wrapping up the win.

In the second match of the day, the NCAA Division II national runner-up North Alabama (5-7) took an early lead and never looked back.  UNA scored six of the first seven points in game one, and also opened game two by scoring the opening 10 points.  Saint Leo battled in the third game, but was outscored 7-3 in the closing stages as North Alabama wrapped up the victory.

Saint Leo will travel to Smithfield, R.I. next weekend for the Bryant Invitational hosted by Bryant University.  The Lions will open tournament play on Friday, September 14 with matches against CW Post (4:00 p.m.) and Bentley College (8:00 p.m.).
