Saint Leo, Fla. (June 25, 2008) – Saint Leo University head volleyball coach Sam Cibrone has announced one additional signing for the 2008 season.  Corey Ryan, a defensive specialist and setter from Dearborn, Mich. will join the team following a successful playing career at Dearborn High School.

“Corey brings us more depth at the setting position, if we choose to run a 6-2 offense,” Coach Cibrone said.  “Plus, she is a solid defender to play defensive specialist in right back or middle back.  I feel she has the potential to do great things here at Saint Leo.”

Ryan was a member of the District Championship team at Dearborn High School in 2007, and was an All-Conference First Team selection.  She was also All-Region First Team as a junior and senior.  In addition, Ryan was named to the University of Michigan All-Tournament Team in 2007.

She set the single-season record for assists at Dearborn High School with 1,248, and was the only player to play in all 157 games during the 2006 season.  She began her career at Dearborn High as the school’s “Rookie of the Year.”

The Saint Leo University volleyball team will open its 2008 season against the University of Central Oklahoma as part of a tournament co-hosted by SLU, Florida Southern and Tampa on Friday, August 29.  Saint Leo posted a record of 24-14 overall and a 6-10 mark in the SSC during 2007, reaching the NCAA Division II National tournament for the second consecutive season, and establishing a new program record for single-season wins (24).
