Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (September 23, 2006) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (10-3, 1-1 SSC) defeated the Nova Southeastern University Sharks (6-10, 0-4 SSC) in four games (30-21, 25-30, 30-19, 30-26) to pick up its first SSC win of the season Saturday evening at NSU’s University Center.
Saint Leo freshman outside hitter Chelsea Armer (San Jose, Calif.) registered a double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs to lead the Lion to the win. Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Starkebaum (Sterling, Colo.) also had 18 kills in the victory.
The start of the match was delayed almost six hours due to a transportation problem for Saint Leo.
Despite the delay, the Lions were able to win the first game 30-21 and NSU evened the match by winning the second game 30-25. Saint Leo scored seven of the final eight points to take game three 30-19 and then finished off the win by outlasting the Sharks in game four.
Saint Leo’s volleyball team will remain in South Florida for another SSC match tomorrow afternoon against Barry University. The match will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Barry’s Health and Sports Center.
