Saint Leo, Fla. (October 28, 2006) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (20-8, 7-6 SSC) swept Nova Southeastern University (11-18, 3-11) on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Bowman Center. The Lions won by the scores of 30-26, 30-28, and 30-23.
Saint Leo was sparked by sophomore outside hitter Audrey Starkebaum (Sterling, Colorado) and sophomore libero Amanda Cook (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.). Starkebaum had 18 kills and a .297 hitting percentage. Cook added her second 30-dig performance of the season.
With the victory, Saint Leo tied the single-season program record for wins with 20. The mark was also reached in 1986 and 1999. Saint Leo hit .212 as a team, while holding Nova Southeastern to a .118 hitting percentage.
Saint Leo next travels to Winter Park, Fla. on Tuesday night for a key conference match-up with Rollins College (7:00 p.m.). The game will be broadcast live on saintleolions.com.
