Saint Leo, Fla. (October 20, 2006) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (18-7, 5-5 SSC) fell to Lynn University (12-10, 5-6 SSC) in five games on Friday night at the Bowman Center. The Lions lost by the scores of 30-19, 30-23, 24-30, 21-30 and 13-15.
In the losing effort, Saint Leo was led by sophomore outside hitter Audrey Starkebaum (Sterling, Colo.) who had a team-high 18 kills and 11 digs. Lynn was led by senior Melissa Roberts who totaled a match-high 19 kills.
The Lions seemed to have control of the match by winning games one and two comfortably. However, the Fighting Knights showed their resilience by coming back and winning the next three games to clinch the match. Saint Leo came roaring back from an 11-5 deficit to get within one point at 14-13 in the final game, before Lynn University senior Larissa Witherspoon put away the match with a kill. Saint Leo hit .225 as a team in the match, while Lynn hit .170.
Saint Leo remains at the Bowman Center tomorrow night for a conference match-up against Barry University (4:00 p.m.).
