Saint Leo, Fla. (October 9, 2006) – Saint Leo University volleyball player Emily Frey (So., Mason, Ohio) was named Sunshine State Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. She shared this week’s honor with Tampa libero Margeaux Sinibaldi.
Frey helped Saint Leo regroup from a loss to No. 4 Tampa with three straight wins to close out the week. Saint Leo (16-5, 5-3 SSC) has won six of its last seven matches and 11 of 13 overall.
Frey’s solid play at the net resulted in 17 total blocks for the week, as she helped limit four opponents to a .192 attack percentage. She posted four blocks in a three-game sweep of Lynn, added five blocks in a three-game sweep of PR-Mayaguez and recorded six blocks in a five-game victory over Kutztown. Frey added seven digs for the week.
The middle blocker became the first Saint Leo volleyball player to be recognized by the conference this season. Overall, SLU student-athletes have claimed a total of seven SSC Player of the Week awards in the 2006-07 school year.
The Saint Leo volleyball team will host No. 3 Florida Southern College tomorrow night in an SSC match at the Bowman Center (7:00 p.m.).
