Softball holds tight at No. 8 in latest NFCA Poll

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo softball held tight at No. 8 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Coaches' Poll announced Wednesday. The Lions were the eighth-ranked team a week ago and posted a 3-1 week last week.

Saint Leo went 3-1 with a three-game series sweep over Sunshine State Conference provisional member Embry-Riddle to open up play at home before taking on No. 4 North Georgia at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Lions fell to the Nighthawks 3-1 to drop their only game of the week.

Following the week of action, Samantha Ohmie was named SSC Softball Player of the Week after going 7-fo-13 from the plate with three runs scored and six RBI. Ohmie ended the week with a .538 batting clip, 1.000-slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage for the week. In the Lions 3-2 win in nine innings over Embry-Riddle, Ohmie hit a two-run home run in the first inning before a solo walk-off shot in the bottom of the ninth.

Saint Leo travels to Nova Southeastern to open up SSC play on Friday, March 3 at 6 p.m. before the series wraps up with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 4, starting at 1 p.m.
