Lions Softball Skipper John Conway to Resign as Head Coach

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University head coach, John Conway, has announced his resignation from the helm of the Lions softball program, effective immediately.

"I would like to thank both Fran (Reidy) and Dr. Kirk for the opportunity," said Conway.  "I thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Saint Leo and I wish the softball program and all of the athletics department all of the best.  The support of the staff and commitment to success made my time a memorable one."

"Coach Conway did a fantastic job while he was here highlighted by the first conference championship in program history. He was able to get the program back to the NCAA tournament as well" said Athletic Director Fran Reidy. "We wish him all the best as he takes on his new challenge."

Conway guided the Green and Gold softball program to its first ever Sunshine State Conference championship in 2013 after posting a 40-16 overall record and leading his squad to a NCAA regional appearance.  The 2013 SSC Coach of the Year has led the team to a 116-98 overall record during his tenure.

In his final season as head coach, Conway led the Lions to a 29-21 overall record and an 11-13 finish in SSC play for the 2014 campaign.

"We will conduct a national search immediately and hope to have a coach named by the time classes begin in two weeks," Reidy stated regarding the staff vacancy.
