WINTER PARK, Fla. - Saint Leo softball player Sarah Steiner collected Sunshine State Pitcher of the Week honors, it was announced Monday afternoon from the conference office.
Junior Sarah Steiner (Sanford, Fla.) clinched an SSC series victory over No. 8 Rollins by collecting both wins in Saturday's doubleheader. Facing the team that leads every conference offensive statistical category, Steiner tossed 8.1 innings of scoreless relief. In a 4-3 victory in the first game of the doubleheader, she took the circle in the second inning with the Tars leading 3-0. Over 5.1 innings, she held Rollins to just one hit with three walks and struck out four. In the second half of the doubleheader, she took over pitching duties in the top of the fifth with Saint Leo clinging to a 3-2 lead and the Tars' tying run on base. Over three frames, she surrendered just one hit and one walk with one strikeout.
Throughout the 2013 season, Steiner has tallied a 5-1 record, hurling a total of 32.2 innings and striking out 23 batters, while amassing a 1.50 ERA.
