Softball Inks Leto High School’s Jaclyn Amato to NLI

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University head softball coach John Conway has announced the signing of Leto High School's Jaclyn Amato to a National Letter of Intent, it was acknowledged Wednesday. Amato will officially join the Lions' softball program in the fall of 2013.

One of the top pitcher's in the Tampa Bay area, Amato looks to assist an already impressive Lions' pitching staff over the next four seasons.

"Jaclyn is one of the top pitchers in the state," said Conway. "She has participated at the Gold Level on the travel ball circuit, is a tremendous high school talent and competes hard on and off the field. We are excited to have her join us next fall." 

A 5-4 right—hander from Tampa, Fla., Amato has built a tremendous resume during her first three high school seasons. As a freshman, Amato was named Tampa Tribune Player of the Week once as well as All-County first team and All-Suncoast Conference Honorable Mention.

Additionally, Amato led all freshman pitchers in the state of Florida, and ranked in the top-20 in the nation with 208 strikeouts.

As a sophomore, Amato, behind a 0.88 ERA assisted her team to the regional semifinals. She also helped her high school club to their first district championship in 30 in years. En route to the team success, Amato was named an All-County Second Team pitcher and Tampa Tribune First Team.

Conway continued, "She has above average velocity and can go up and down with her pitches. She has a strong presence in the circle and will make an immediate contribution when she arrives."

During her most recent campaign, Amato registered 12 victories and led the team with 152 strikeouts in 101 innings pitched. She tossed 15 complete games and surrendered just 17 earned runs.

On the travel ball circuit, Amato has competed with the Tampa Mustangs, and most recently with the Newton Rock under the leadership of Ric Wayne.
