SAINT LEO, Fla. – Head softball coach John Conway released the names of four more student-athletes to play on his 2012-13 team, Wednesday from Saint Leo's main campus. The group consists of transfer athletes Chelsey Steedley, Sarah Steiner, Jessica LoBianco, and Jackie Carey.
Having already announced twelve new players, Conway's announcement brings the team's total offseason signings to 16.
The competitive group features two athletes from the state of Florida as well as one from New York and one from New Jersey.
Player: Chelsey Steedley| Previous Institution: Chipola College| Height: 5-4 | Position: Outfield
Steedley was a four-year member of the Hardee Senior High School squad, where she led her team in runs scored. An incoming Elementary Education major, the outfielder previously played at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. As a sophomore at Chipola, she led her team in RBIs while also receiving the Sportsmanship Award and the NJCAA Player of the Week Award.
Coach Conway's Thoughts: "Chelsey will bring much needed speed to our outfield. At Chipola she showed that she can hit for power by driving in over 60 runs, speed with over 30 stolen bases and for average with a batting avg of .376. She will definitely be an asset to our outfield with her high skill level and leadership."
Player: Sarah Steiner | Previous Institution: Gulf Coast State College| Height: 5-6 | Position: Pitcher
Steiner attended Seminole High School where she was a 3-year MVP and named to both the All-Conference First Team and All-Conference Second Team. The Health Care Management major was also a two year competitor at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Fla., where she was named to the All-Conference Second Team and the All-American Academic Team.
Coach Conway's Thoughts: "Sarah is a strong left handed pitcher that won 12 games for a solid Gulf Coast program. She has a winning attitude and does a great job of moving her pitches around the zone."
Player: Jessica LoBianco | Previous Institution: Binghamton University | Height: 5-4 | Position: Outfield
Joining the Lions' squad after a redshirt freshman season at Binghamton University in Vestal, NY, LoBianco was a four-year member and New York State Scholar Athlete of the Kings Park High School softball team. During her time at Kings Park HS, this Psychology major was named to the All-County Team, received the Coaches Award and the Kings Park HS Ryan Award.
Coach Conway's Thoughts: "Jess will compete for a position in our outfield as well as a DP. Jess has above average speed and is coming in from a D1 program. Her ability to slap will give her an opportunity to compete to play."
Player: Jackie Carey | Previous Institution: Burlington County College | Height: 5-5 | Position: Outfield
Carey attended Cherokee High School, where she played varsity softball. After graduation, the Biology major competed as an outfielder at Burlington County College in Pemberton, NJ, where she received the Coaches Award and the Golden Glove Award.
Coach Conway's Thoughts: "Jackie is coming from a very successful junior college program as a 2 year starter. Jackie has good speed and above average power. She has a great ability to track a ball in the outfield and will compete for a spot in our outfield."
