Yates Collects Daktronics All-South Region Second Team Honors

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Already earning CoSIDA All-South Region First Team and All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team honors, Lions' catcher Brittany Yates was selected to the 2012 Daktronics All-South Region Second Team, it was announced Tuesday.

Putting together one of the best all-around single seasons in program history, Yates concluded her four-year stint as the Lions' leader in home runs with 35 and doubles with 50. As a senior, the Riverview, Fla. native compiled a team-best .373 batting average, while starting 53-of-54 games. In addition, the catcher led the team in nearly every offensive category including, hits (59), runs (36), doubles (12), home runs (5), and RBI (44).

Alabama-Huntsville's Stephanie Needham was named Player of the Year, while Tampa's Deanna Henriott earned Pitcher of the Year honors.

A total of 28 student-athletes across 12 different institutions made-up the Daktronics All-South Region First and Second Teams, including six SSC schools.  

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.

The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA).
