Saint Leo Downs Lynn in Season Finale, 6-1

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo softball team (22-32, 7-17 SSC) capped-off their 2012 regular season with a 6-1 Sunshine State Conference victory over Lynn University (2-47, 1-23 SSC), Monday afternoon from University Softball Stadium.

The victory concludes the Lions' regular season having won five of their final six games. The Lions also graduate six seniors from the current squad.

Saint Leo compiled nine hits on the afternoon, including a team-best 3-for-4 performance from senior Brittany Yates. Senior Dianne Gonzalez also went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win.

After two scoreless frames to start the game, Yates stepped to the plate and poked an RBI triple to right field scoring Rachelle Gremo from first base.

In the fourth inning, the Lions put together a three-run frame to highlight the win. Danielle Moreda ignited the inning with an RBI double down the left field line.  McKenzie Burns then capitalized on a Lynn fielding miscue which resulted in a pair of runs to make to the score 4-0.

Senior Ali Lamb punctuated the win with an RBI triple into the right field corner in the fifth inning to bring the score to its eventual final.

In the circle, junior Megan Still posted her 10th win of the season as she tossed 5.2 innings. She also registered seven strikeouts before giving way to freshman Ashley Ehlers, who closed out the victory.
