SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo softball team (14-12, 1-3 SSC) fell to the No.11 Barry Buccaneers (21-4, 4-0 SSC), 1-0, Friday evening from Buccaneer Field. The Sunshine State Conference showdown saw Brittany Yates collect the Lions' only hit as Barry remained perfect in the conference.
Megan Still was tagged with the tough-luck loss as she surrendered only four hits and one run across seven innings of work. Still tossed 73 pitches en route to her seventh complete game of the season.
The Buccaneers broke through with their only run in the third inning as Sarah Broeseker lifted a two-out pitch over the right field fence to put the Bucs up 1-0. The hit was the first of the game for the Buccaneers and stood as the eventual game-winner.
Barry's Brianna Smith, who surrendered only one hit to the Lions through the opening six frames, kept the potent Lions' offense off the board in the seventh to post her 10th win of the season.
Saint Leo saw five runners left on base.
The Lions will continue its SSC series with Barry on Saturday, March 10. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon from Buccaneer Field.
