WINTER PARK, Fla. – Saint Leo senior catcher Brittany Yates has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Softball Player of the Week it was announced by league officials on Monday afternoon.
Yates batted .562 with eight RBI and five runs as the Lions went 3-2 in the Saint Leo Spring Invitational. She also hit safely in all five games and tallied multiple hits in three contests.
The Riverview, Fla. native drove in at least one run in every game and batted in multiple runners three times. She recorded a double and a home run and was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts. For the week, Yates recorded a .812 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base percentage. She was flawless behind the plate, posting 23 put-outs.
The conference honor marks the first weekly award for Saint Leo Softball in 2012 as she is one of 24 Lions to earn SSC Player of the Week honors in 2011-12. Yates is also one of three Saint Leo student-athletes to earn the weekly award this period.
Yates and the Lions will continue with early-season tournament play when they travel to the ESPN Citrus Classic and face North Georgia on Friday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Fla.
