Conway Announces 55-Game Softball Schedule

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Softball Head Coach John Conway has formally announced his team's 2012 schedule. In total, the Lions will compete in 55 games, including 26 home games, three tournaments, and 16 away contest.

"We're playing a very strong schedule this season, taking on difficult in-region and out-of-region competitors from all over the country," stated Conway.  Many of the programs we will be facing are nationally ranked and will present a great opportunity for us to get better with each game. I fully expect our non-region schedule to prepare us for a run at the top of the conference."

The Lions will open their season at the friendly confines of University Softball Stadium with four games against St. Thomas and Palm Beach Atlantic (Feb.3 and Feb.5). The Eckered College Spring Invitational (Feb.10-12) is next-up for the Lions where they will take on a host of competitive teams, including Armstrong Atlantic.

After a mid-week doubleheader with Flagler (4:30 p.m.), the Lions will host the Saint Leo Invitational (Feb. 17-19), where both conference foes and Midwest squads will converge in an eight team, 17-game event.

Continuing their run of February tournaments, the Lions will travel to Kissimmee, Fla. to battle a trio of national powerhouses at the ESPN Citrus Classic (Feb.24-26), including North Georgia.  Saint Leo will then close out February with a doubleheader against Mount Olive College.

Opening March, the Green and Gold will commence Sunshine State Conference play with a home series against the Florida Southern Moccasins (Mar. 2-3). A pair of crucial road SSC contests against Barry (Mar. 9-10) and Tampa (Mar. 16-17) bookend a trip to Clermont, Fla. (Mar. 14) where they will square off against non-conference opponents New Haven and Westminster.

Saint Leo will follow the opening of SSC action with a trio of non-conference opponents in Fontbonne (Mar. 21), Palm Beach Atlantic (Mar. 24), and Valdosta State (Mar. 28). The squad will dive head first into conference play once again as they will host Nova Southeastern (Mar. 30-31) and Florida Tech (Apr. 4-5) in back-to-back weekends.

The Lions will then close-out the road conference portion of their schedule as they head to Winter Park, Fla. to take on defending SSC Champion Rollins College (Apr. 13-14) and an upstart Eckerd squad in St. Petersburg, Fla. (Apr. 20-21).

The Lions will close out the regular season with a home conference series against Lynn (Apr. 29-30), with Senior Day scheduled for April 30.
