SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo softball program and Head Coach Christi Wade, have announced the date for the upcoming alumni game and beginning stages of a brand new softball complex to be built in the near future.
First, the alumni event has been set for October 24, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at the University Field. The game will feature the 2010 squad going up against players from the past. Following the alumni game will be the traditional barbecue, which is graciously being cooked by Steve and Karen Brunt, parents of softball alumnus Erin Brunt. However, this year’s alumni event has a special meaning to it as it marks the final gathering of past players at University Softball Field. Beginning in the near future, the beginning stages of a new softball complex will begin.
Currently the complex is on target to open for the 2009-2010 year, complete with covered batting cages to be shared by softball and baseball. The new facility will be directly north of the baseball field in what is currently the hillside leading up to Lake Jovita. The covered batting facility will be between the two facilities with four separate cages which can be used for both hitting and pitching.
