SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University softball team has announced its schedule for the 2009 regular season.

After compiling a 37-15 record, a national ranking of 19th and advancing further in the NCAA Tournament than any other Lions’ team in history, the Saint Leo softball squad is set to begin a run at a sixth regional appearance this decade.

The team wastes no time in facing tough competition as they fly to San Antonio, TX. to compete in the St. Mary’s Tournament on February 5th.

Highlighting the Lions’ trip to Texas is a non-conference showdown with Angelo State on Feb. 8th.  Angelo State finished the season two spots ahead of the Lions in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association top 25 poll in the No. 17 position.

After the five-game swing to Texas, the Lions open up home action at the friendly confines of University Field against first-year program, Flagler College on Feb. 17.

SLU continues tournament action three days later as they compete in the Eckerd College Spring Invitational for the second consecutive season (Feb. 20-22). On the second day of action, the Lions take on a pair of nationally-ranked teams, in the form of SSC foe Tampa and Peach Belt foe Armstrong Atlantic.

Next for Saint Leo is Rollins College, as they begin home conference action. The three game series is set to begin on Feb. 27th.

The Lions also sandwhich a trip to Lakeland, Fla. during the congested week for a three-game set against the powerful Mocs of Florida Southern.
