Saint Leo, Fla. (May 16, 2008) – Saint Leo University softball pitcher Ashley Urbanik (Jr., Riverview, Fla.) was named 2008 Daktronics Division II Second Team All-America, it was announced Friday.
Urbanik, who was also a Louisville Slugger/NFCA Second Team All-America selection also earned 2008 Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year honors in 2008. Urbanik's post-season honors also included being named NFCA and Daktronics First Team All-South Region and First Team All-Sunshine State Conference. She led the Lions to a stellar 37-15 overall record, including two straight wins in the winner’s bracket at the 2008 NCAA South Region Softball Tournament.
Urbanik concluded the season with a 27-10 record in the circle, a 1.04 ERA, striking out 259, throwing 31 complete games, 14 shutouts and five no-hitters. At the plate, she batted .306 with 44 RBI, nine doubles and tied for the team lead in home runs with 14 while slugging .625.
Urbanik ranked in the top 100 nationally in seven different categories, including 15th in home runs per game, 13th in earned run average, 38th in strikeouts per seven-innings and 14th in total victories.
Barry University and Rollins College also represented the SSC, placing two on the 2008 Daktronics Division II First Team and two on the Second Team.
