Saint Leo, Fla. (May 8, 2008) – Saint Leo University softball player Ashley Urbanik (Jr., Riverview, Fla.) was named to the NFCA First Team Al-South Region Softball Team it was announced on Thursday.

Urbanik, who named the 2008 Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and to the Daktronics First Team All-South Region Team on Wednesday, led Saint Leo as one of the most versatile performers in the SSC and the south region.  She posted a 25-8 regular season record with 230 strikeouts and a 1.09 ERA in 2008.

The junior also helped herself at the plate, as she batted .315 with 44 RBI and 14 home runs.  In addition, Urbanik slugged .658 in 2008, which was fifth in the SSC.

Urbanik is now eligible on the NFCA All-America ballot as a First Team All-Region selection.

Urbanik tossed a complete-game shutout performance on Thursday, helping Saint Leo to defeat University of West Florida 2-0 in the second round of the 2008 NCAA South Region Tournament in Miami Shores, Fla.  The third seeded Lions will face top seeded Barry University on Friday at 4:00 p.m. in the winner’s bracket game at Buccaneer Field.
