Saint Leo, Fla. (March 31, 2008) – Saint Leo University softball player Ashley Urbanik (Jr., Riverview, Fla.) was named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by SSC Commissioner Michael J. Marcil.
Urbanik led the No. 22 Lions to a pair of SSC series victories over Eckerd and Florida Southern. She batted .450 with eight runs, 13 RBI, a double and five home runs. She hit safely in all six contests, posting a home run in the first five games of the week, and tallied multiple hits three times. She also recorded at least one run and RBI in each contest, driving in multiple runs in five of six games
Urbanik concluded the week with a robust 1.250 slugging percentage, a .476 OBP and a 1.000 fielding percentage. With nine homers on the season, she has tied the SLU single-season record in that category along with Tatiana Casis (Jr., Port St. Lucie, Fla.). Urbanik also posted a 4-1 record on the mound during last week.
Saint Leo student-athletes have now claimed a total of 26 SSC Player of the Week honors in the 2007-08 season, and 28 Athletes of the Week overall. Urbanik has already been named Pitcher of the Week twice this season, including last week with a 1.15 ERA.
The Saint Leo softball team (25-7, 8-1 SSC) will host No. 11 Valdosta State University on Wednesday in a non-conference showdown at University Field. The doubleheader is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
