Saint Leo, Fla. (April 24, 2007) – Sophomore DP Ally Maddox (Brandon, Fla.) went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored, as the Saint Leo University softball team (31-20, 13-9 SSC) defeated visiting Rollins College (35-11, 10-6 SSC) on Tuesday in the teams’ Sunshine State Conference series opener.

The win was the fourth straight for the Lions, as Maddox delivered a three-run double with the bases loaded and also connected on a solo home run to deliver four of the five SLU runs.

Saint Leo’s first run of the game was scored when Christina Van Tassel (Sr., Valparaiso, Fla.) reached on an error in the third inning.  Maddox then took advantage of the extended inning by delivering her bases clearing double to stretch the lead to 4-0.  The Lions’ sophomore sealed the win with her team-leading seventh homer in the sixth.

The Tars attempted to rally, as they scored both of their runs in the top of the seventh.  However, that was all the visitors would score, as Ashley Urbanik (So., Riverview, Fla.) won improved to 22-11 with her 29th complete-game effort of the year.

The same two teams will meet tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. in a doubleheader to conclude the series.  The double dip will mark the final games of the 2007 regular season for the Lions, and the four seniors will be honored between contests.
